FAQ
Is Ginger Bears truly kennel-free?
Yes! We don’t believe in cages. Your dog enjoys a free-range environment on our 2-acre property, meaning they have the freedom to move, socialise, and rest in a natural, open-plan setting rather than being locked in a kennel. When it's time for sleep they can choose their bedding from a wide range of options. This is why we keep total numbers small; that way they can be treated like family.
What size dogs do you accept?
We specialise in medium to large breeds. Ginger Bears is designed for dogs that need more room to move. By focusing on similar sizes, we ensure play sessions are safe, balanced, and high-energy.
Why do you do a trial before a dog can stay?
Safety is our top priority. All dogs undergo a temperament assessment to ensure they enjoy the company of others and demonstrate basic submission and inter-dog etiquette; ideally responding to their name and basic commands.
How do you ensure safety during free-range play?
We supervise interactions and emphasize 1 on 1 play. We take note of who gets on well together and keep an eye on the progression of dynamics during the day. Older pups can be less tolerant and younger pups have more energy... typically they manage this well themselves but sometimes we help them out. We actively manage the pups for anti social behaviours.
Is 2.5 acres enough space for a big dog?
Absolutely. Our 2.5 acres are perfectly sized for constant supervision. Your dog gets enough space to hit a full gallop and play fetch, but they are always within sight of our people.
How does the Pet Taxi service work?
Our Pet Taxi provides convenient door-to-door transport across Brisbane. We pick your dog up in the morning and drop them back home after their "Stay and Play" session, It is a regular week run (on non-school holidays) to offer some convenience - saving you the trip and keeping your pup’s routine stress-free. The additional fees may apply if you are away from our pickup hubs on the north and southside. Ask us for a fixed price quote.
Do you modify dog behaviour?
Behaviour modification is not our goal. We do regularly use positive reinforcement techniques (e.g., treats, encouraging words, attention). If some dogs need to be given time-out or require further modification we will communicate this to the owners. There are at least two trained staff on site every day.
